Northeast Georgia Health System treats a very diverse population based on its location in a small town just south of the North Georgia Mountains and sixty miles north of Atlanta. Due to a substantial amount of growth in patient population, NGHS began plans to expand their hospital in 2003. Both idea|span and HKS were contracted to create a new 7-story, 367,000 SF patient bed tower for NGHS. Construction was completed in 2009.

While the North Patient Tower was being designed and developed, NGHS asked idea|span to create a new architectural, lighting, finish and furniture standards program that could be applied to both new building and renovation projects. The new standards program was completed in 2007.
