Girl Scouts of Northwest Georgia Headquarters

Atlanta, GA

idea|span, Interior Designer
SWSN Architecture + Engineering, Architect

During the fall of 2006, the Girl Scouts of Northwest Georgia began to make plans for the future. Around the same time, the Girl Scouts USA had begun a process to re-brand itself as the premiere service organization for girls. idea|span was contracted to conduct programming and feasibility studies for the Girl Scouts of NWGA to help determine their new headquarters location. The site of Timber Ridge was selected, which currently housed the Girl Scout campgrounds, trails and conference center. This site provided a central location for all Girl Scout activities and, in a way, brought the organization home.

The existing conference center at Timber Ridge was renovated into a Volunteer Service Center which houses a retail store, resource center, archival space dedicated to Girl Scout history and a Girl Scout lounge. The new 36,000 SF headquarters building was positioned adjacent to the Volunteer Service Center with the lower floor nestled into the hillside.
