Evidence-based design uses current best evidence from research and practice to make critical decisions, together with an informed client, about the design of each unique project. As an independent consultant, RAD advocates for the client while collaborating with the design team. RAD develops an EBD footprint and tracks its evolution during the design process. When the design deviates from the original vision and goals for the project, RAD evaluates the design to determine its effects on the original intent and provide recommendations for resolution. As researchers, we are grounded in the evidence; as practitioners, we understand the challenges that the design team faces. Our experience on both sides of the table – research and design – allows us to maintain clear design goals with evidence as a top priority so that every project represents our client’s desired vision when completed.
In this significantly revised second edition, Cynthia Leibrock and Debra Harris offer up-to-date information on design details that can improve patient outcomes and user experience by returning authority to the patient, along with fascinating case studies and research demonstrating the positive role design can play in reducing health care costs.
