Healthcare Design 2008 in Washington D.C.

Join us at the HealthcareDesign 08 Conference in Washington D.C. from November 8-11 as Debra Harris speaks during two sessions about the importance of research and evidence-based design for indoor healthcare environments.

Session Title:    Impact of Single Family NICU Rooms on Family Behavior
Date and Time:  Monday 11.10.08, 3:00-4:00 p.m.
Location:  Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center, Washington D.C.
Session Description: Groundbreaking results of a recent NICU study demonstrate the impact of that environment on family members. Hypotheses of the study were that: interaction between families in single-family rooms (SFR) would decrease in that setting relative to the Open Bay setting, interaction between families and staff would decrease in the SFR relative to the Open Bay, and interactions between families and infants would increase in the SFR relative to the Open Bay. Forty-hour observations in multiple facilities using Noldus observational software, resulted in data that has profound implications for NICU design. Results indicate the impact the NICU has on families with design implications, and demonstrate behavioral mapping technology.

Session Title:  Q & A for Project Based Healthcare Design Research: Everything You Always Wanted To Ask!
Date and Time: Tuesday 11.11.08, 10:30-11:30 a.m.
Location:  Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center, Washington D.C.
Session Description: A group of researchers have written a book, published by the Center for Health Design, that asks and answers questions practitioners have about the process of Evidence-Based design research. This is an open forum for the audience to "give it their best shot" and ask questions about environments research. It is an opportunity to have a little fun, learn a lot, dispel concerns and build confidence for those who want to "walk the talk" and contribute to the growing body of knowledge of healthcare environments research. We'll discuss research design, team coordination, costs, the role of consultants, and common hurdles!
